Context Setting

‘POKA-YOKE’, also known as mistake-proofing, is a technique of avoiding and eliminating simple human errors that may occur during operations in factories / plants / workplaces which would cause defects. The concept was founded by Dr Shigeo Shingo, an industrial engineer, Toyota Motor Corp. in 1961 and implemented as a part of well-known Toyota Production System. 

Poka-Yoke makes it practically impossible to make mistakes. It aims at Zero defect to improve ‘Quality of a Product’ as well as ‘Profitability of a Company’ to survive in the long run during cut-throat and healthy competition. 

Poka-Yoke is practiced in all types of sectors in India also. To name a few, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro, etc. have extremely benefited by adopting various Poka-Yoke applications & projects. Breakthrough Improvements thus brought competitive edge for their products & processes.

In fact, Poka-Yoke now-a-days can be applied not only in manufacturing companies but also in service sector, office administration & transaction processes.
