Sustainability through Green Manufacturing Systems

Sustainability through Green Manufacturing Systems

Context Setting

Deteriorating air quality in India in with rising AQI numbers and increased awareness for environment among masses with respect to river pollution, plastic disposal etc. are the"Telltale signs" of what we can expect ahead:

1. Stricter regulations for manufacturing industries.

2. Likely government support for Industries involved in Green Manufacturing.

3. Increased consumer awareness for green products

Going forward, manufacturing industries will be under increasing pressure to reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining competitiveness. To top it of rising energy costs and transition to renewable energy and green products (e.g. electric vehicles, green steel, green cement etc.) highlight the need for a shift toward Green Manufacturing — a model that integrates environmental responsibility with operational efficiency.

An innovative approach that blends technology with green strategies to create a more sustainable future, green manufacturing integrates sustainable practices into every stage of production, from sourcing raw materials to design, operations, and distribution. It aims to upgrade any outmoded modes of production and opts for more sustainable manufacturing solutions via waste reduction, waste recycling, better natural resource utilisation, and other allied measures.

The Government of India demonstrates unwavering commitment to Environment,Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) through targets like net-zero emissions by 2070,50% non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, and adherence to the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming below 2°C. The Indian Industry is more than willing to contribute its bit towards fulfilment of these goals by embracing eco-conscious practices to meet regulatory compliance, be future-ready for growth and achieve global competitive edge. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) aids through policy advocacy, providing framework like Greenco & spread awareness and make Industry ready through various initiatives in line with the fulfilment of these targets.

Considering that green manufacturing is no longer just a cosmetic practice but the perfect solution to balance economic growth and sustainability this two day workshop by CII Centre of Manufacturing Excellence (CII CME) will equips the participants with the tools and strategies to implement green manufacturing practices effectively by blending theory, practical experiences, case studies from leaders in industry, BRSR reporting / study of reports, group exercises and target-setting to convert strategy into operations for indusial organisations .
