Virtual Workshop on 'Kaizens & 3Ms (Muda, Mura, Muri) for Manufacturing Excellence'

Virtual Workshop on 'Kaizens & 3Ms (Muda, Mura, Muri) for Manufacturing Excellence'

Context Setting

In today's competitive manufacturing environment, organizations are expected to continuously improve

productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety, morale and sustainability while responding rapidly to changing

customer expectations and business requirements.

Kaizen – Continuous Improvement through Total Employee Involvement – provides a structured

approach to achieving these improvements through small, systematic and sustained changes at the

workplace. It harnesses the potential of every employee by creating the desire, capability and opportunity

to contribute to improvement.

Effective Kaizen goes beyond idea generation. It involves identifying improvement opportunities,

understanding problems, addressing root causes, eliminating waste, implementing practical solutions

and sustaining the gains through teamwork and employee involvement.

The 3Ms – Muda, Mura and Muri provide a useful Lean framework for looking at workplace activities

and processes from the perspective of waste, unevenness and overburden, and for converting such

observations into meaningful improvement opportunities.

When combined with Standard Work, 5S, Ergonomic Safety, PDCA and structured Problem Solving,

Kaizen becomes a powerful enabler for building a culture of continuous improvement and achieving

Manufacturing Excellence.

Objective

The programme is designed to provide practical guidance for effective implementation of Kaizen, with a

focus on Total Employee Involvement, identification and elimination of Muda, Mura and Muri, systematic

Problem Solving, and sustaining improvements to support Manufacturing Excellence initiatives.

The programme emphasises practical understanding and workplace application through industry

examples, Kaizen cases, Formats, evaluation criteria, and implementation guidelines. Participants will

gain practical insights that they can relate to their own workplace, adapt to their organisational

requirements and apply to strengthen their Kaizen and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Key Takeaways

Participants will gain practical understanding of the following:

1. Kaizen – The Foundation of Continuous Improvement - Basic principles; brief history & evolution;

and Characteristics of a good Kaizen.

2. Understanding the 3Ms – Muda, Mura & Muri; Converting 3M observations into Kaizen

opportunities.

3. Enablers of Effective Kaizen - Standard Work, 5S & Ergonomic Safety, Visual Management,

Poka Yoke.
